Can a House Feel Off? What I Notice When I Tune Into a Space

5 min read

Have you ever walked into a room and immediately wanted to walk back out?

Nothing obvious was wrong. The furniture wasn’t threatening you. The walls weren’t making strange noises. Still, something about the space felt heavy, uncomfortable, or simply off.

People contact me about their homes for all kinds of reasons. Sometimes one room feels unusually cold. Lights flicker or turn on and off. A child begins having nightmares.

Someone feels unsettled in a particular part of the house but can’t explain why.

Other times, nothing unusual is happening at all. A house has been on the market for months without selling. A family is preparing to move. Someone is building on a new piece of land or getting ready to host an important retreat, class, or gathering. They want the space to feel supportive of what they’re creating.

Can I scientifically prove that a house holds energy?

No.

Do I believe our surroundings can carry an energetic history or imprint?

Yes.

And those two answers can sit at the same table.

First, Let’s Not Blame Everything on Energy

Before deciding that a flickering light is a message from another dimension, please check the bulb.

Cold areas may come from drafts, insulation problems, or an HVAC issue. Flickering lights can signal an electrical problem that needs attention. Nightmares and disrupted sleep can have many possible causes. Environmental concerns, including mold, carbon monoxide, unusual sounds, or poor air quality, should always be investigated appropriately.

Energy work doesn’t replace practical safety checks. I believe we can be spiritually curious and grounded at the same time.

That’s pretty much how I approach everything. Question everything!

What Does It Mean When a Space Feels Off?

Within the spiritual framework I use, land and buildings may hold energetic patterns connected with the people, events, and emotions that have moved through them.

Think about a home where a family raised their children for 30 years. That house may have held birthday parties, arguments, illnesses, celebrations, grief, and thousands of ordinary Tuesday mornings.

Whether you call that energy, memory, atmosphere, or association, spaces can feel different to us.

During an energetic assessment, I may notice patterns that I interpret as disturbances in the land, residual energy from previous occupants, or areas that don’t feel harmonious with the people currently living there. Some traditions describe energetic pathways in the land as ley lines. These ideas are part of spiritual and intuitive practice, not established environmental "science".

Still valid?

Absolutely!

I don’t expect everyone to share my interpretation. I simply try to be honest about what I perceive, what I believe, and what I cannot prove.

I Don’t Actually Come to Your House

This surprises people.

This home and property harmonization work is conducted remotely. The current process unfolds over 28 days rather than during a single visit.

I begin with a private intake conversation and information identifying the property. My team and I then spend focused time assessing the home (or home office), its structures, and the surrounding land. I may use a pendulum, along with other methods of energy assessment I've learned over years of training and personal experience, although portions of the process are proprietary.

After the initial assessment, I complete the first phase of energetic clearing and put customized energetic supports in place. Each week, I reassess the property and make refinements when appropriate.

Throughout the process, my intentions are centered on peace, gratitude, harmony, and the highest good of everyone connected with the property.

This work is not about controlling people, influencing someone’s decisions, or overriding free will. I don’t work that way. The intention is to support the space, not manipulate the people within it.

At the end of the 28 days, we meet privately to talk about the process and any changes the homeowner has noticed.

Some clients tell me their home feels lighter, calmer, or more welcoming. Others notice that they rest more easily or feel more settled in the space. Experiences vary, and I can never predict or guarantee what someone will experience.

Sometimes I Work With a Space Before Anything Is There

I also do something we call “Pre-Lighting.”

This may be requested before construction begins, before a new business or venue opens, or before a retreat, conference, class, wedding, or other meaningful gathering.

The intention is to bring focused, supportive energy to what is being created and to address anything we perceive as being out of harmony with the purpose of the project.

It isn’t about guaranteeing that an event will be perfect or that every obstacle will disappear. If only event planning actually worked that way.

It’s about beginning intentionally and asking my client:

  • What do you want this space to hold?

  • How do you want people to feel when they enter it?

  • What qualities do you want to welcome here?

The House That Finally Sold

One clearing has stayed with me.

The owners had been trying to sell their family home for nearly a year. They had adjusted the price during that time, but nothing seemed to be working.

This wasn’t simply a piece of real estate to them. Their children had grown up there.

Years of family life were woven into that home, and I perceived a strong sense of attachment and resistance around the transition.

During the clearing, we worked with the intention of releasing those energetic ties gently and allowing the home and family to move into their next chapters.

At that point, the owners didn’t make another price change. They later reported that the house sold within a week of the clearing.

Did the clearing cause the sale?

I can’t prove that, and I would never promise someone that clearing a property will make it sell. Many practical factors influence a real estate transaction.

What I can say is that the timing was meaningful to the homeowners. Nothing else had changed at that moment, and they felt that something blocking the transition had finally released.

I honor their experience without needing to turn it into scientific proof.

A Home Is More Than a Structure

Our homes hold our ordinary lives.

They hold the places where we laugh, argue, grieve, recover, celebrate, and begin again.

It makes sense to me that we might occasionally pause and ask not only whether a home is clean, organized, or beautifully decorated, but also how it feels.

Maybe that feeling has an obvious physical explanation.

Maybe it has an emotional one.

And maybe, sometimes, there is something we experience energetically that we don’t yet know how to explain.

I’m comfortable leaving room for all three.
